One of the primary barriers standing between waiting children and families is the cost associated with adoption. We at The Knox Foundation want to help bring families together by assisting you in your adoption journey. The Knox Foundation considers the totality of circumstances when reviewing grant applications for domestic adoptions.

Our Mission: Committed to helping reduce the greatest barrier to adoption, and necessary finances, through our adoption grants. Because additional fears and concerns may linger, we also help families explore their calling to adopt through education and grants.

Deadlines & Guidelines

The deadline for your Application is every August 1st of the current calendar year. Your application is complete after you successfully submit your application and all references and documents are submitted. Your application date is the day your complete application is submitted to The Knox Foundation. If a portion of your application or references is not complete, you will be moved to the next deadline.

Notifications

You will receive notification of the outcome of your application by mail.

Processing the application takes a minimum of 90 days after the application deadline.

Step One: Before You Apply

The Knox Foundation accepts applications from couples and individuals regardless of race, religion, gender, ethnicity, marital status, or sexual orientation. Please note the following criteria:

  • At least one applicant must be a US citizen.
  • Must be using an established adoption agency based in the US
  • Must have a completed, approved, and current home study
  • Must not be pregnant, trying to conceive, or pursuing infertility treatments simultaneously with your adoption.
  • Applicants must be associated with a licensed adoption agency or attorney. If you are selected for a grant, you will be asked to provide all contact information.
  • Money is only payable in USD to a licensed US adoption agency or lawyer.
  • We do not cover agency start-up fees, funds are to be applied towards the finalization of your adoption.
  • If any portion of the grant is unused upon completion of the adoption process, or upon the 18 month anniversary of the official grant award date, the remaining funds will revert back to The Knox Foundation

The Knox Foundation reserves the right to contact applicants and service providers by phone or email to clarify any information provided in the application or to conduct a telephone interview.

Applications cannot be submitted for:

  • Independent adoptions through lawyers, facilitators, or humanitarian organizations licensed to place children
  • Embryo adoptions
  • Adoptions outside of the United States
  • Adoptions for which placement has occurred already

Step Two: The Application Process

  • Collect the following pieces of information (please black out social security numbers):
    • IRS tax information (W2 and 1040 or 1099 forms) for the last two years
    • Net worth of property, investments, goods, and liquid assets
    • Annual budget information for both income and expenses
    • Address, phone, name, and email of your adoption agency and caseworker
    • Your home study
    • 2 Family written Referrals
    • 2 Non Family/Friend written referrals
  • After the application is submitted and references are received, an initial review will be conducted to ensure the application is complete. If additional information is required, you will be notified by email. You will receive an email with further details and dates when your application is accepted.
    • All applicants will receive a letter from The Knox Foundation regarding the outcome of their application. If you are awarded a grant, you and your agency will receive a copy of your award letter and instructions for the disbursement of funds. All funds must be disbursed directly to the agency.
